AN ALLOA butchers has received a range of top accolades at the World Scotch Pie Competition.
J & W Aitken, based on High Street, took home three awards at the international tournament, including the Diamond Awards for Best Sausage Roll.
Alongside the top award, they also won the Silver Award for their Mince and Onion Bridie and the Bronze Award for their Macaroni Pies.
Speaking to the Advertiser, David Thomson, general manager of J & W Aitken, was delighted with the awards and laid praise on his hard-working team.
He said: “I am very proud of the team and the work they have put in.
“It’s great for Aitken’s to get recognition in our field from our peers, not just from butchers but bakers as well.
“To win a Diamond at this level, with all the competition, is amazing.”
The World Scotch Pie Championship final was held on Tuesday, January 16 at the Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld.
The winners were announced at the prestigious awards lunch, presented by TV personality Carol Smillie.
James Pirie & Son, from Blairgowrie, were crowned champions for the fifth time in the competition, lifting the iconic trophy.
Lesley Cameron, CEO of Scottish Bakers, said: “With nearly 500 of the best pies on the market entered by 78 of the best butchers, bakers and other pie makers and with each and every entry put to the test by 50 pie professionals, the annual winners have now been announced.
“They should all be very proud.”
