KURTIS ROBERTS won Advertiser Sport Player of the Year Award for his outstanding display all-season round.

The midfielder has been bursting with energy since the minute he signed last summer and has been rewarded for his efforts by picking up a hat trick of awards.

Alongside the Advertiser’s POTY, Roberts has picked up the Director’s POTY and also Goal of the Season for his rocket of a strike against Hamilton.

Roberts’ goal against Hamilton was his first for the club and he celebrated by unleashing around four or five different celebrations in front of the Alloa support.

He has gone onto score four now for Alloa, his last coming in 2-2 draw against Hamilton in the first leg of the playoff semi final on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to Advertiser Sport, Roberts hailed the quality of the full squad and called on them to get the job done in the upcoming playoffs.

“It’s been a good season on a personal note,” Roberts said. “I settled in well and it’s good to get the individual recognition.

“But at the end of the day, I’d trade it all in to go up the leagues through the playoffs.

“As Bobby [Wales] said as well, you could pick anybody in our team and not one person would say ‘that’s unheard of’.

“I think everyone had a chance to go for it.”

As reported by Advertiser Sport last week, Roberts has signed a contract extension with Alloa.

He is currently part of a good backbone of players confirmed for next year, alongside Scott Taggart, David McKay, Morgyn Neill, Steven Hetherington, Stefan Scougall and PJ Morrison.

Reflecting on his time at Alloa, Roberts called it the “best club he’s been at” and admitted it was an easy decision to stay another year.

Roberts added: “The gaffer spoke to me and we had a chat when he came in and he told me what he wanted.

“I knew myself I would have signed no problem. For me, this is the best club I’ve been at in terms of how it’s run, the boys are brilliant on the pitch and off the pitch, the gaffer is brilliant with me.

“Just before Chipper [Brian Rice] left, I was actually going to speak to him about signing on another year, that’s how much I’ve enjoyed it here.

“I’m chuffed to stay another year and hopefully I get another successful year here.”
