LORNSHILL Academy pupils and parents were invited into the informative world of post-school life, writes Danielle Martin.

Students from S4-6 were given the chance to talk to possible future schools or employers at a Careers Options Event last Wednesday.

The pupils were able to talk to organisations such as Forth Valley College, Stirling University and the NHS.

An ambassador from Glasgow Caledonian University told the Advertiser she was impressed that the school catered for all the pupils: "I think it's good that they do a lot of vocational stuff as well. I didn't get that.

"We were just told that we were going to university. Pupils have been saying that they don't want to go to university."

More than 30 different organisations attended the event and even students who don't attend Lornshill were made welcome.

Lauren Grant, S5, claimed the event "gives more of an insight of jobs out there".

She added: "I know what I want to do from the last careers event."

Sophie Uttly, also from S5, agreed that the event was important: "It hasn't affected my decision, but helped figure it out."

Lorraine McGee, the career coordinator at Lornshill and the organiser of the event, added: "We are always trying to educate young people about the many and varied post-school opportunities available.

"We have built up very good partnerships with Diageo and Forth Valley College. It's a valuable event to help the wider community."
