THE Wee County paid a fitting tribute to the late Conor Brown with a football festival and memorial night in his honour last weekend.

Dozens turned out not only to pay their respects, but to remember the 22-year-old and his passions in life.

An amateur footballer, Conor played for a number of local sides where he took up his favoured position between the sticks.

Indeed, he was nicknamed the Holy Goalie and was also described as "the brawest looking goalkeeper you'll ever see".

Conor died in March this year with the news sending shockwaves around Clackmannanshire.

The county rallied together and there was an outpouring of support for mum Gillian, dad Stephen, brother Declan and sister Calli.

Devastated friends then set up an online fundraising page in an effort to raise £3,000 to help out his family.

However, the response was to prove much greater than initially anticipated, with the total reaching almost £15,000.

A Facebook page named Keep Conor's Star Shining Bright was then created and before long the idea to formally celebrate the young man's life came to fruition.

On Saturday afternoon, six full football teams filled with volunteers, friends and ex-teammates, arrived at Alloa's West End Park to face off in a football festival in Conor's name.

Then, in the evening, others went along to a memorial night at Sauchie Hall to toast the Holy Goalie and share their memories.

Organisers thanked all those who gave up their time and played a part in the weekend's celebrations.

A post on the Facebook page read: "I'd just like to thank Stevie, Gillian, Declan and Calli for allowing us to have a football festival in Conor's name.

"It was a fantastic day for a fantastic guy who will have been watching us from above kicking and saving every ball.

"Thanks to RJM Sports for supporting us with discounting the trophy, medals and bibs. This was a great gesture and much appreciated by all.

"Thanks to the guys who helped pull it together to make it happen, also the four local referees who kindly volunteered to work on the day.

"Thanks to all at Tullibody AFC who turned up and competed alongside after playing in a final the evening before.

"And finally thanks to everyone of the players and supporters who again showed that we are The Wee Best County. Here's to Conor, Our Legend. Our No. 1."
