THE Wimpy Park Community Group is forging ahead with its plans to create a space in Alloa for all to enjoy.

Volunteers will now be able to progress with their plans, after it became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCO47539).

They say this development will allow them to apply for funding, amongst other things, and to begin with proposals for transforming the spot in the Mar Policies.

At this new stage, the group is welcoming people to get involved, show support and to help with ideas for the space and also the community garden.

Mark Mitchell, who founded the organisation with fellow Alloa man Fin Robertson, said: "We're hopefully going to return this to its, kind of former glory.

"Put play areas back in for kids, open a community garden for like everybody for to sit at peace and quiet and have a bit of tranquility up here, as well and just enjoy the place.

"And make it into something to be proud of down this way and bring it back to a community where people can mix.

"We need support from everybody. Now that we've got the SCIO number as well, if anybody would like to donate stuff or give funds.

"Again, we're actually open for that now so they can actually give donations or funds.

"But more than anything we need the community's support.

"We need them to come on board with us as well, we need help with the community garden side of it and just support us.

"Follow the web pages, share the posts that we've got, make it go bigger – make it go bigger and better."

As previously reported in the Advertiser, the group was initially formed as an off-shoot from the Bowmar Action Group in December.

It has quickly taken off, attracting a strong membership, and a constitution and committee was formed.

Those involved would like to sit down and discuss leasing options with Clackmannanshire Council, which owns Wimpy Park.

So far, volunteers have been relentless in their quest to clean-up the park, clearing away trees, cutting grass and removing fly-tipping, and they say it is already being used more by the local community.

And in May, somewhere in the region of 400 people turned out for a consultation fun day at the location, for some bank holiday activities and to give their feedback on what they would like to see happen in the greenspace.

These activities mark the beginning of what will be a long term-drive for the group, which hopes to fully redevelop the area.
