RESIDENTS of a Tullibody care home celebrated last Wednesday’s National Fitness Day with a wheelie walk.
People at the Orchard got wrapped up and took to the streets to enjoy some fresh air, exercise and a bit of a blether.
And they weren’t alone either, as they were joined by members of Glenview nursery, volunteers from the Tullibody Healthy Living initiative and Mitsy, the pet therapy dog.
Lynne Hiddlestone, the centre’s wellbeing co-ordinator, said the event was a case of getting outdoors and breaking away from the norm.
She told the Advertiser: “It’s great for the village to actually see us being proactive. We had so many people waving from their windows and speaking to us, which was lovely.
“They enjoy going out. We do morning movement every day but this was something different and I think we will probably do this on a monthly basis.”
However, for the 20 individuals who were taken out on their wheelchairs, it wasn’t just a case of getting out and about and Ms Hiddlestone spoke about some of the other positives behind the idea.
“It was a wee bit of socialising and it’s good for their concentration,” she added. “It was a wee bit windy but they really did enjoy it.
“There’s so many beneficial factors and it gets their appetite up as well.”
