A ZOMBIE walk and evening of spooky fun has been organised by the Wimpy Park Community Group.

People can embrace the spirit of Halloween by donning a fancy dress costume and taking part on Saturday, October 28.

Mark Mitchell, one of the founders of the group, said: "We're going to have storytelling, a zombie walk up through the woods, hopefully some special effects along the way.

"Hopefully come back round with a parade, with everybody with their fancy dress, kids with all their fancy dress coming through the Mar Policies, back into the park.

"Then we can finish off with some fun games, kind of like maybe the pancakes on the string – trying to get them with syrup on them.

"Dress a mummy, we'll have the best fancy dress competition, things like that.

"It will maybe only be a couple of hours, but it's still something in the park."

The family friendly event will start at 5.30pm and is weather dependent.

People should wear suitable shoes, take a torch and it is free, although donations will be welcome.

Unfortunately, it isn't suitable for prams or wheelchairs, while anyone under 11 must be supervised.

Volunteers have also been rolling up their sleeves to continue with a project to revitalise Wimpy Park.

They picked up gardening tools and came together to build raised beds, pushing forward with plans to redevelop the area.

The Wimpy Park Community Group, a registered charity, is at the helm of the drive to improve the Alloa grounds.

It has been making inroads over the last few months and recently received funding from Inspire Scotland and Clacks has got Talent.

Mark, who founded the group with fellow Alloa man Fin Robertson, said: "We're waiting on people still doing us a final drawing, of like a park area, sports area and the final garden area.

"Once we get that in place that then gives us a plan for the future that we can then go and try work out our own plan then go and secure funding for it.

"At the moment, the funds that we have got we're going to kind of put back into the garden area..."

The group, which would like to be able to plan a Christmas event, has been working to get other members of the community involved in its projects and welcomed Gartinny Nurseries to help with the raised beds.

It is also keen for others to get onboard and volunteers hope to be at the park once a week, between around 11am and 2pm.

Mark said: "We're going to be here [the park] most Tuesdays, trying to do stuff to like the gardening area, trying to keep that going.

"Other than that, just keep an eye on the Facebook page, keep sharing, keep supporting us and come along, get involved."
