CLACKS residents gave their full support to servicemen and servicewomen by lining up along the streets of Alloa for the Armed Forces Day parade last week.

Families came out in their numbers on Friday morning, giving a warm reception for the cadets and young musicians that led the march along Drysdale Street to the town hall.

The parade was greeted by hundreds of well-wishers, along with representatives from the council, the local police and the British Legion.

Tina Murphy, provost of Clackmannanshire, paid tribute to all those who attended and gave thanks to the country’s forces.

Cllr Murphy also highlighted that this is a special year as it is 100 years since the end of the First World War and also the 100th years of the RAF.

Speaking outside Alloa Town Hall, she said: “I’m delighted to be joined by the Falkirk and Stirling provosts, our MP Luke Graham and our own MSP Keith Brown, who is also a veteran.

“This is a special day for us today. It is the hundredth year since the end of the First World War. It is also 100 years’ service from the RAF. We think, too, about our current armed forces who are currently serving all over the world and here on the home front, keeping us safe.

“Please also remember their loved ones and families who sit at home waiting and praying that they come home. Think of them today, in particular.”

The provost also spoke of the importance of keeping close links with the forces.

The Royal Salute was then played by a piper as the armed forces flag was raised outside the town hall.
