A SPECTACULAR doll house, handmade in the Wee County, could be stealing the show at the Alva Games this summer while netting cash for a good cause.

Following many hours of work, the Wee County Crafters have almost completed the 1:12 scale model, which they hope will provide a wow-factor at the popular event this summer.

The wooden mock up, which measures about 4ft square on the base, will be raffled off in a bid to raise money for Maggie’s Centres.

It was modelled after the east wing of the former Alva House with chairman John Russell using an old photograph to guide the work.

The only addition to the authentic build is a front door, which is necessary to complete the vision.

With its traditional model scale, where one inch equals one foot, the house should be perfect for any collectors who could fill it up with furniture and much more.

Tickets for the raffle are £1 and are available from the crafters in Alva and should be coming to local shops too.

Some clubs in the area are also selling tickets to members and more are welcome to get in touch with the group to help raise as much as possible for the charity which works with cancer patients and their families – locally on the grounds of Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert.

Nothing but a crumbling wall is left of Alva House these days, but it used to stand tall in the wooded area between the town and neighbouring Tillicoultry.

The estate used to belong to the Erskine’s who struck silver nearby.

However, after the First World War, the house and estate fell into decline and it is said the building itself was used for target practice by the military.

More details on its history are available from the Ochils Landscape Partnership.

While the doll house will surely be at the centre of attention at the Wee County Crafters stall when the Alva Games are on this July, they will also be selling a wide range of items which members have been working on.

Accessible from Cobden Street, the crafters always welcome new members.

There are tools, machinery and also great company with teas and coffees.

More space is also available at the premises so groups looking for space could find a new home there.

Anyone looking to get in touch can call John Russell on 01259 769 730.
