A WEE COUNTY mum has spoken of the pride she feels for her daughter who managed to raise almost £3,000 for a heart charity.

Lynn Hogarth and her family were left devastated when her brother-in-law passed away due to a rare heart condition earlier in the year.

James, who was just 28-years-old, had the rare condition since birth, but it only began to affect him in adulthood.

One glimmer of light for the family, however, was one of Lynn’s twin daughters volunteering to raise money for the British Heart Foundation because of the fantastic work they do with people all over the country.

Amelia, who is just nine-years-old, wanted to show her auntie, James’ wife, how much he meant to everyone – a move which “blew everyone away”.

The youngster, who lives with her family in Menstrie, decided that she would get her long blonde locks cut off, no mean feat as her mum said she hates getting any hair cut off.

Lynn told the Advertiser: “Amelia said she wanted to do something to remember James in order to help the people who helped him.

“We set a target of £400, thinking that would be amazing, but ended up getting loads more, with it currently sitting around £2,800.”

Lynn spoke of her surprise at Amelia choosing to do the fundraising, saying she is the quieter one out of her and her sister, Ruby.

The mum continued: “She is the shy one so for her to come and say it blew us away. We were so proud. It has given my sister something to focus on as well.

“She really suits her short hair and she is loving it. I was worried she wouldn’t like it but she does, thankfully.

“She donated the hair to Princess Trust so she is happy about that. She even cut the first bit off herself. It was an emotional day because it was my sister, who is a hairdresser, who cut her hair and it was Amelia’s birthday weekend.”

Although James sadly passed away, his death was not in vain. As an organ donor, he ended up saving seven lives with his organs.

Lynn said: “We just wanted to get organ donation into conversations as James was currently waiting on a heart transplant when he died.

“He went on to save the lives of seven other people. This is something good which has come from it all.”
