Central Scotland firefighters up for the challenge
CENTRAL Scotland Fire and Rescue Service extrication team lifted the second top award at the UK Rescue Challenge 2008. The team, made up of firefighters from Alloa, Tullibody, Denny and Falkirk, are world experts in their field but were narrowly pipped for the top spot by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Train spotters witness another 'first' in Alloa
THE first train for 28 years fully laden with passengers made its journey along the tracks from Dunfermline to Alloa on Monday. For the first time since the Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine railway opened in May a train, the ‘Alloa Alloer’, with passengers travelled from the east on to and along the line.

Tullibody mum is jailed for petrol bomb plot
A MOTHER who persuaded two teenagers to petrol bomb her neighbour’s home has been locked up for 12 months. Dawn Monaghan (38) targeted the house of Jackie Campbell (39) and her family as she slept in her bed.

Hit-and-run driver loses appeal against jail term
A SPEEDING driver who mowed down a couple on a pedestrian crossing has had his appeal against his sentence thrown out by the court. Mohammed Ahmed (20) ploughed into John and Joanne Macdonald in Alloa’s Greenside Street on 4 October 2006, leaving them for dead.

Alloa drug courier jailed for three years
AN ALLOA dad who agreed to be a drugs courier to help a friend was jailed for three years on Tuesday. At the High Court in Glasgow, 30-year-old Alan Walsh, of Hill Street, admitted being concerned in the supply of amphetamine.
