Assault victim's fury as thug avoids prison term

Wee County troops make a difference in Afghanistan
CLACKMANNANSHIRE troops due to take part in a homecoming parade in Alloa have spoken of their time in Afghanistan, the problems they faced and the progress made. Soldiers from the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, have recently returned from their time in the country where they have been trying to force out the Taliban and allow the local population to lead a normal life.

Alloa is switched on to the festive season
ALLOA’S Christmas lights were switched on in the town centre on Saturday during a fun-filled family day of fun. The lights were turned on by Provost Derek Stewart, Santa and Banchory Primary pupils Natasha Gray and Edvinas Leginas.

Moves to protect homes from flooding
A DRAINAGE improvement project has been completed in the Elistoun Drive area of Tillicoultry in a bid to prevent future flooding of homes. And a second phase of work, to increase the sewer capacity to convey flows away from the Elistoun Drive area, further reducing the risk of flooding, is now underway.

Dollar pupils develop their business skills
DOLLAR Academy pupils are getting the chance to develop their business skills whilst raising money for the Princes Trust in Scotland. Fifteen senior pupils are taking part in the Prince’s Trust Scholar’s Challenge and are up against six other schools in Scotland.

Alva marks 'final' St Andrew's Day celebrations
THE final St Andrew’s Day celebration at Alva Academy on Friday was packed with memories, achievements – and press-ups. With the newly-built Alva Academy due to open in the next few weeks the event gave past and present pupils the chance for one last look round the current school building and to celebrate academic and sporting success.

Don't get needled by rogue tattooists
AN ALLOA tattooist is warning people are putting their health at risk by using unlicensed operators for skin piercings and tattoos. Martin Quate, owner of tattoo parlour Urban Ink, was presented with the firm's licence last week by Councillor Eddie Carrick and environmental health officer Lynn Crothers.

Mum in tears after vandals trash son's grave
VANDALS have left a heartbroken mum devastated after trashing the grave of son in Alloa Cemetery. Linda McCartney’s life had already been shattered earlier this year by the tragic death of her 23-year-old son Robert Cleghorn. But she was left distraught when she returned from a holiday to hear Robert’s grave had been vandalised.

Parent Council fights axing of lollipop crossing
