TULLIBODY residents have had the chance to push their demands for community facilities on the site of the former Tullis factory.

A public consultation organised by Tullibody Regeneration Group (TRG) and the Community Partnership Team for Regeneration (CPTR) gave people the chance to see plans for a state-of-the-art community centre – and to suggest other facilities they’d like to see.

But while TRG wants the old factory site for the community, a developer has also submitted plans to Clackmannanshire Council to erect three and four storey residential properties on the same land – and the council is due to make a decision on this application later this month.

TRG has already submitted a 650-signature petition against the housing development and argues that what Tullibody needs is new community facilities, not even more houses.

Local firm Turato Architecture has drawn up plans for a eco-friendly community centre, plus bike/skate park and peace garden on the site – and the public consultation gave TRG a chance to put the plans before the local people.

TRG chairman Robert Robinson told the Advertiser, “We’re hoping to shame the council into giving us this site for the community and giving the local people what they want.

“We’re getting people to fill out questionnaires on what they think is needed in Tullibody, what it lacks and what will make people think it is a great place to live.

“There has been a population explosion in Tullibody in the last 30 years – but the amenities and facilities haven’t kept up with that. This is why we want this site for the community of Tullibody.”

The community centre plans include a 300-seater hall, stage, changing rooms, office space and community suite.
