Railway is due in May
By Alloa News Room
THE long awaited Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine rail link is back on track – and should be up and running by May next year, it was revealed this week.
By that time, the new Alloa train station will already be in the waiting line, with a completion date of December this year.
Executive agency Transport Scotland made the announcement this week, following several delays on the rail link, which was initially due this year.
But the agency is still no further forward on publishing an audit report, due out last month, commissioned to give an indication of the true cost of the project and reasons for any delays deviating from the initial plans.
Earlier this month, the Advertiser reported that the audit – like the railway – was running behind schedule.
This week, Transport Scotland said that while the findings had been presented, the full report, including the final estimated cost of the SAK project, had not.
A spokesperson for Transport Scotland said, “While we are awaiting the full report for this project, the preliminary findings of the audit have been presented, and are being used to assist in cost management and programme planning. A review will then be sent to ministers once the full report has been received, however, until then, we cannot pre-empt any outcome.”
The spokesperson added, “Overall, we remain confident that the project will meet its revised target commissioning date of end March 2008, with operational services starting in May 2008.”
