ALLOA switched on to Christmas at the weekend, with a spectacular, sparkle-filled party fit for hundreds of revellers to enjoy.
Top Westlife tribute band Unbreakable topped the bill in a glittering programme of festive fun on Saturday, during the countdown to the big switch on of the town’s Christmas lights.
Santa, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and the three Dim Kings dished out plenty of cheer as they mingled with the crowds in the run up to the magic moment.
And entertainment from top DJs including Dougie Jackson and Lionel Vinyl helped keep the crowd dancing with their selections of party tunes – and keep them warm as they braved the sub-zero temperatures.
But four-piece harmony band Unbreakable were undoubtedly the stars of the show, wowing the audience with top hits such as When You’re Looking Like That, Bop Bop Baby, I Have a Dream and Unbreakable.
Dusk brought the long-awaited switch on of the Christmas tree and High Street lights, which this year was performed by Provost Derek Stewart and Alva Primary pupils Gregor Crossan and Jamiee Cairns (both P2).
Derek told the Advertiser, “It was an absolutely great event. We had over 5000 people in the High Street area and I’ve received nothing but comments of praise and good vibes about the switch-on since the weekend.”
The Provost added, “The entertainment was possibly not really to the taste of my generation, but the younger members of the audience really enjoyed the Westlife tribute band and I thought they performed very well.
“Gregor and Jamiee did a great job. I think they were a little shocked by the size of the crowd at first, but once they got over that, they loved it.”
