Lidl's cut-price kilts have sold out in Alloa.

QUEUES full of people eager to get their hands on cut-price kilts formed outside an Alloa supermarket on Monday morning.

The Lidl store, in Candleriggs, sold out of their entire stock of casual kilts and accessories by late morning.

Lidl manager Leanne McBain said, “We opened at 8am and people had been queueing up since 7am. It didn’t take long to sell out. We were able to get some extra stock in but those sold out quickly as well.”

The budget kilts were available in three types of tartan – Black Watch, MacKenzie and Douglas – along with Jacobite Shirts for £12.99, sporrans for £12.99 and kilt socks for £3.99.

The outfits were sold at Lidl stores throughout the country in the lead-up to Burns’ Night and were incredibly popular as an alternative to the traditional Highland dress - which can cost upwards of £450.

A spokeswoman for Lidl said, “We always do price reductions on products associated with Burns Night and this year we decided to do something different.”

The kilts that sold out at Lidl differ from traditional kilts as they are not made of wool and are only five yards long instead of eight.

Those who arrived too late to buy one of the bargain kilts may get another chance as Leanne added, “It is something we will look to do again – although I don’t know when at the moment.”
