Alva firm backs film star's charity
By Jamie MacDonald
FILM star David Hayman on one of his charitable trips to Afghanistan.
SCOTTISH film star David Hayman was in Alva last week to meet staff at Avalon Klik.
The actor – who has appeared in Trial and Retribution, Vertical Limit and Rob Roy – visited the county to discuss Spirit Aid, the charity he set up to support children whose lives have been devastated by war, genocide and poverty.
In the past Avalon have raised thousands for charity through their golf and football days and now they plan to team up with the actor to raise funds for those who need it most.
Robert Ferguson, director of Avalon, said, “Everything went fantastically well. We wanted to put all our efforts into one charity and the work Spirit Aid does is fantastic.
“Not one penny is spent on administration – everything goes to helping those in need.”
Spirit Aid carries out work in places such as Kosovo, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Guinea Bissau.
David previously went to Afghanistan – without the government’s knowledge – with £16,000 in a money belt and organised medical help for 13 villages that hadn’t seen a doctor in 24 years.
Robert added, “David is a really down to earth guy not like how you would expect a movie sta to be. He has hired doctors that used to work for the mujahadeen to work for the good of the people.
“He bought three buses over there to go around the country providing medical help and we would like to add to that.”
Robert would like to hear from any businesses in the county who wish to help with fundraising for the charity.
He added that David plans to return to the county to explain to supporters of the charity exactly what their donations are going towards.
From a work point of view David also plans to return to Clackmannanshire to make a short film.
Anyone interested in raising funds for Spirit Aid should call Alison Ging at Avalon on 01259 769490.
