MENSTRIE Primary School’s quiz team proved they were top of the class as they won the annual Primary Schools Quiz organised by the Rotary Club of Alloa.

Traditionally hosted by the previous year’s winners, this year’s event was held last Tuesday at Craigbank Primary – and members of the school’s PTA committee kindly laid on refreshments for competitors, supporters and judges.

Twelve of Clackmannanshire’s primary schools were represented by an enthusiastic team of four players, with one reserve – and they were all supported by a large turnout of parents, family and friends.

The Rotarians were kept on their toes, handing out and collecting question papers, marking them and displaying the results.

In a close-run contest, Menstrie Primary were the winners, with the 2007 champions, Craigbank Primary, having to settle for the runners-up spot this time round.

Two teams shared third place – Abercromby and St Serf’s.

Menstrie and Craigbank now go on to compete in the ‘Zone 7’ against schools sponsored by other Rotary Clubs in the area.

The winners of that event move on to the ‘District 1010 Final’ for clubs north of the River Forth, and then the Scottish Final.

WINNERS: Menstrie Primary – Jacob Henderson, Callum Ferguson, Glen Caldwell and Abby Shiels.

RUNNERS-UP: Craigbank – Aisling Hurley, Ashleigh Fenwick, Ryan Porteous and Christopher Hislop.

THIRD (JOINT): Abercromby – Jamie Hunter, Emma Stirrat, Ashleigh Gear and Lauren Cooper.

THIRD (JOINT): St Serf’s – Dawn Dawson, Niamh Campbell, Natalie MacAulay, Grant Walker and Matthew McLaren.
