THE humour and drama of a Glasgow family living in a tenement during the 1930s will be brought to life in Dollar Drama Club’s latest production.

Men Should Weep, written by Ena Lamont Stewart centres on a family coping with the effects of unemployment and portrays their strengths and weaknesses with typical Glasgow humour.

The play will be performed from Wednesday 9 April to Saturday 12 April at the Dollar Civic Centre.

Dollar Drama veteran Linda Rice is directing and, with only a week to go, things are shaping up nicely for the cast.

Linda told the Advertiser, “Things are going well. Everything is coming together at rehearsals. The play is full of fabulous Glasgow humour and very poignant at times – a real snapshot of how people survive living in poverty.

“Our last productions have been the zany Bolt from the Blue and Hayfever. This is a classic of a different type. I love that we are doing a Scottish play about Glasgow and there seems to be a renewed interest in Scottish writing at the moment.”

Men Should Weep will feature a number of well-known faces alongside four talented youngsters – Jonathan Payne from Craigbank Primary School in Sauchie, Julia Hurry and Amy Thomson from Dollar Academy and Lewis Buchanan from Queen Anne High School in Dunfermline.

“The youngsters are doing really well and I think they may steal the show,” Linda went on. “The older youngsters are having to take on roles that are older than themselves. It’s very challenging but they are rising to that challenge and I’m really pleased with them.”

The performances start at 7.30pm and tickets, priced at £7 and £5 for concessions, are available from Ellies Cellar in Dollar.
