Artist Tracy Waddell is using her talents to raise funds for charity

AN ALVA artist is hoping to be a brush stroke away from raising vital funds for charity through her latest exhibition.

Tracy Waddell is holding an exhibition to raise funds for the Parkinson’s Disease Society later this month – and will display a variety of works, with some of them on display for the first time.

She has also donated one of her paintings to the society, which they will auction at their annual dinner, hopefully raising at least £300 for the charity.

Over the last six years, Tracy – who is a Physiotherapy Technician with the NHS – has exhibited throughout Central Scotland, forging a successful career as an artist.

Her work is very distinctive through her use of texture, brush strokes but, most of all, contrasting and vibrant colours.

The majority of her work is based on landscapes which aren’t painted conventionally but are expressed in a surreal fashion through her expressive use of colour with acrylics.

She first took up art as a hobby attending a local art class but was encouraged by her tutor, Grier Ralston, to exhibit her work.

Tracy decided to hold her latest exhibition in aid of the Parkinson’s Disease Society because it is a charity close to her own heart.

She told the Advertiser, “A close family relative of mine has had Parkinsons Disease for the last four years so I felt at this moment in time it was the most appropriate charity to do the exhibition for.

“It’s such a worthwhile cause and something which is close to all my family’s hearts.

“I am a little bit nervous about it and I just hope the exhibition raises a good bit for the Parkinson’s Disease Society.

“However, I would like to do more exhibitions in the future for different charities as they are all as equally worthwhile.”

The mum-of-three is delighted that she has had such a positive response to her art work which allows her to express her creative side.

She continued, “It was really Grier who inspired me and I probably wouldn’t have taken it as far without her encouragement.

“I do get a buzz out of knowing that other people appreciate my work and I enjoy the whole creative process.

“On the whole I am a creative person and I also try to encourage patience and the creative arts through the various activities and groups I facilitate in the NHS such as gardening and arts and crafts groups.

“I feel that everyone as some creativity in them and it just a matter of finding out what it is.”

As well as combining her job with the NHS and her career as an artist Tracy runs her own aromatherapy business.

Despite her busy lifestyle Tracy says she love doing all three with each one bringing its own rewards.

Tracy’s work is also on display in the Alloa Framing Company and a percentage of any profit from any of her work that is sold will go to the Parkinson’s Disease Society.

Her latest exhibition in on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 April between 11am and 4pm in Alva, with free admission, but a percentage of any proceeds will go to the Parkinson’s Disease Society.

Due to the size of the venue an appointment will need to be booked by calling Tracy on 01259 769040 or 0775 313 8982.
