Former Forefronter Gregor Scott is delighted to be cast in the Disney musical.

A FORMER Forefronter will make his musical debut this summer in one of London’s most prestigious theatres.

Gregor Scott, from Coalsnaughton, moved to the capital in 2005 to study at the Theatre School Arts Educational.

The 23-year-old is now close to completing his three-year BA (Honours) course in Musical Theatre, and has already secured his first job in a Disney stage show version of the hit film High School Musical.

Gregor managed to beat off stiff competition and made it through several rounds of auditions to win a place in the ensemble and also as an understudy for the male lead, Troy.

Rehearsals for the show, at the Hammersmith Apollo, begin on the 27 May, with the show itself running from 27 June to 31 August.

Gregor told the Advertiser, “The casting director for High School Musical came to one of the shows we put on for our course and quite a few of us have managed to get jobs out of it.

“I have auditioned for several shows but this is the first one I have auditioned for and got, so I am really excited.

“The last year has just flown. It has been a lot of hard work but it has definitely been worth it.”

Luck also proved to be on Gregor’s side as initially he was knocked out at the final stage of auditions but was called back after someone who originally got through pulled out. He was then hand picked by the show’s American producers to be an understudy for the lead role of Troy.

Gregor has already had a taste of the bright lights, singing in a concert in the London Colosseum and starring in the pantomime Dick Whittington last year.

However, he says he just can’t wait for the rehearsals to start for High School Musical.

“The Hammersmith is an amazing venue and is one of the biggest in London,” Gregor went on.

“I know it is going to be hard work with nine shows a week but at the end of the day this is what I have been preparing for over the last three years.”

Although Gregor is concentrating on musical theatre at the moment, he hopes to be able to set himself new goals as his career progresses, possibly auditioning for TV roles.

Throughout his career Gregor has been supported by family and friends back in Coalsnaughton and also his former stage school.

“I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Forefront Stage School for their ongoing support, which has helped me so much over the last three years,” he said.

Gregor also said that his family will be first in line for tickets for High School Musical.

“My family are just as excited as me and are really pleased that I have managed to get a job already.

“However, my mum was panicking a bit because she thought I wouldn’t be able to finish my degree but – thankfully – that’s not the case and I am able to do both.”

The former Alva Academy pupil was given sponsorship when he first moved to London.

He would like to thank everyone who helped him for their support and financial backing.
