Newly-weds win trip to Canada's town of romance
By Bob Lovik
Newly-weds Colleen and Malcolm McGregor.
A SAUCHIE couple have embarked on an all-expenses paid dream honeymoon to Canada’s most romantic town.
Colleen Brisbane (27) and Malcolm McGregor (31) left on Sunday for a two-week holiday to Digby, Nova Scotia, after winning a Central FM contest that paid for both a fairytale wedding and their honeymoon.
The couple were married on the 29 February at Stirlingshire’s Glenbervie House Hotel in a £20,000 ceremony, including rings, flowers, cars, a photographer, a wedding dress, entertainment and the honeymoon to Nova Scotia – which means ‘New Scotland’ in Jacobean Latin.
Ian Russell, an international development consultant in Nova Scotia and a Clackmannanshire native who helped organise the honeymoon, said that Digby residents in the quaint maritime province were eagerly awaiting the young couple’s arrival.
From his office in Nova Scotia, Ian told the Advertiser, “It is going to be a special trip.
Everybody here is jumping about it, and Colleen and Malcolm are in for some great surprises.
“They are an absolutely delightful couple and I couldn’t picture two better people to have won the contest.
“Everyone here in Nova Scotia is truly looking forward to this. They will be blown away when they arrive.”
The couple will have received a special airport pick up in a limo flying the Saltire when they arrived in Halifax on Sunday.
They were then driven two and a half hours to Digby, which has been dubbed Canada’s most romantic town.
As part of their winning package, the couple received free flights, free car hire and free accommodation at a total of five hotels.
Colleen and Malcolm will be spending a week in Digby before heading to Kings County – ‘The Land of Orchids and Tides’ – for the final week.
Mr Russell hopes that their trip will strengthen bonds between Clackmannanshire and Nova Scotia.
Nova Scotia was founded by Sir William Alexander, from Menstrie, and a contingent from the Canadian province will be making a trip to the Wee County this summer.
Mr Russell added, “We had no problem whatsoever getting people here in Nova Scotia to donate hotel rooms and other aspects of their trip.
“This honeymoon is a result of our Gaelic speaking Premier, Roddy MacDonald, who granted special permission for their trip and is very keen to strengthen the bonds between Nova Scotia and Clackmannanshire.
“I know the couple will be great ambassadors for Scotland.”
