AN EVENING of class was promised at Alloa Town Hall last Wednesday evening – and that’s what was delivered in the classical concert presented by the Rotary Club of Alloa in association with Clackmannanshire Council.

Pianist Francesco Attesti and singer Annika Kaschenz produced a rare treat for their Wee County audience, with every item on the programme performed by the Italian stars being appreciatively received and rewarded with sustained and enthusiastic applause.

Among the audience was a Clackmannanshire vocal tutor, Jennifer Nunn, who rated Francesco Attesti’s piano solo of ‘The Orage’ by Liszt as outstanding.

She added that the powerful and mellifluous voice of Mezzo-Soprano Annika Kaschenz was superb throughout, and especially suited to the Habenera from Carmen. Jennifer thought Annika could well fill the role of Carmen, and it was significant that for an encore she performed another aria from Carmen.

Two first year pupils from Alloa Academy accepted invitations to attend the concert – Eilidh Mather, who is about to take Grade 4 Piano exam, and Megan Thomson, about to take Grade 5 exam. Both are members of the Academy Singers.

After enjoying the concert they were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet both Francesco and Annika.

Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Princess Royal Trust for Carers.
