Alanna Neil is searching for her father.

A 16-YEAR-OLD girl has turned to the Alloa & Hillfoots Advertiser for help in tracking down her father who she last saw as a toddler.

Alanna Neil, a student from Dunbar, contacted the Advertiser after searching internet websites and the General Register Office for Scotland in Edinburgh.

She told the Advertiser, “I am making enquiries about the whereabouts of my father. I know his name is Donald George Wright and that he was born in 1973.

“He was raised in Alloa and I know his mother and father had lived in Alloa all their lives and it is possible they are still there.”

Alanna has always had a desire to find her father and was told by her mother that when she reached the age of 16, she could begin her search.

Alanna said, “My mum and dad were never married and we haven’t seen him since I was two.

“They were both 19 when I was born. My mum has spoken about him and said he was a nice person who just wasn’t ready to be a father.

“I want to meet him because I am curious about who he is and what he does. I want to know him.”

Donald Wright was known to have many friends in Alloa and Alanna is hoping that one of them or a family member will get in touch.

Wherever he is, he knows about Alanna as he still pays child support.

Alanna was born in Dundee and lived the first few years of her life in the Fife town of Cupar before moving to Dunbar.

She turned 16 in February and has been searching for her father for the past few months. But the search has been difficult.

Alanna attends school during the week and works in a nursing home on the weekends cleaning, tidying and serving lunch to the residents. She finds the work rewarding and has plans to study child care when she turns 17.

She said, “I am staying at school to do my Highers. I want to work with children and I will be going to college in Edinburgh to take child courses next year.”

When she has time, Alanna also likes to play badminton.

Alanna said while she grew up in a very loving home, she has always been curious about her father.

She added, “My mum has given me everything I needed and I always had a lot of family around when I was younger. My aunties and my grandad would be around and look after me when my mum, who is a nurse, was at work.

“I am more curious than anything about who he is. I really want to meet him.”

If anybody has any information to help Alanna find her father, call the Advertiser on (01259) 214 416.
