PROVOST Derek Stewart bagged two goals from six attempts during Sauchie Fun Day’s beat the goalie competition.
It was a day packed with events and entertainment, with families and community groups coming together to enjoy a day that has been missing from the Sauchie calendar in recent years.
The action took place inside and outside Sauchie Hall and was enjoyed by a large crowd with a variety of stalls and a funfair for the youngsters.
Mr Stewart said, “Sauchie Community Group held the fun day. It was a great day, and we were lucky with the weather.
“They had a bouncy castle and all sorts for the kids, and plenty of stalls, with the stall holders doing very well, raising a lot of money for their respective charities.”
Everyone was smiling and having a great time, and the likelihood is that next year’s event will be even bigger.
Mr Stewart added, “The hope is that it will be even bigger next year, and the planning for that would begin now.
“Instead of the Main Street they would look at returning to Fairfield Park, or another suitable venue. This year’s fun day was like a mini-one, and the turn out was really good - so it has a bright future.”
And those who turned out were all smiles, enjoying the entertainment that began at noon.
There were plenty of activities for people to participate in, especially for the younger members of the crowd, with a children’s magic show, the ever popular Nintendo Wii, as well as face painting.
The various charity stalls were on hand for everyone including the Cat Protection volunteers who kept the crowd ‘purring’. The Brionni Trust volunteers attracted many supporters to their busy stall.
The packed programme also included charity raffles, toys, tombolas, books and plenty of refreshments, as well as beat the goalie, and lots more.
Music was provided by the ever-popular Alex Walker Accordion Band, who kept feet tapping throughout the afternoon.
The Sauchie fun day was undoubtedly a big success and was enjoyed by young and old alike.
Roll on next year . . .
