Teenager ‘threatened to bite dog’
By Court Reporter
Beattie appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court
A TEENAGER threatened to bite the nose of a police dog after he had already sunk his teeth into his friend’s ear.
Daniel Beattie (19) had been drinking with a couple of his friends when he got in a fight with one them.
During the scuffle he punched his mate in the face and sunk his teeth into his right ear.
Later when police officers found Beattie he made the bizarre threat to the police dog.
On Thursday, Beattie, of Mar Place, Alloa, appeared from custody at Alloa Sheriff Court and admitted charges of assault and breach of the peace on 8 and 9 July, whilst on bail.
Fiscal depute Keri Marshall said at about 8pm on Tuesday the complainer was in Johnston Crescent, Tillicoultry, with friends when Beattie arrived.
The complainer left the premises and later saw the accused and the two others in the grounds of Tillicoultry Primary School.
Miss Marshall said, “The complainer approached the accused and asked for a cigarette. The accused seemed to take umbrage and called him a s**** bag.
“The argument escalated to a fight and the accused punched the complainer on the face and body. The couple ended up on the ground and then the complainer felt what he described as teeth biting into his right ear. The complainer managed to break free and called an ambulance.”
The police also arrived and later found Beattie at the address in Johnston Crescent.
He tried to make his escape by hurdling over adjoining garden fences but was eventually caught and arrested.
When Beattie was placed in the police car he told officers, “I will bite your nose off” and on the way to the police station threatened to “stab the next polis” he saw.
Miss Marshall said the bite victim suffered a fractured rib and was to return to hospital for “closure” of the bite wound.
The court heard Beattie had been placed on probation in April.
Defence solicitor Robert Smith said the complainer and Beattie were friends and that his client had consumed a “considerable” amount of vodka that night.
He said, “It is his impression that all the people there were steaming. He accepts there was an argument between himself and the complainer and he said it got out of hand.”
Mr Smith added that the threat to bite the police officer’s nose off was “quite bizarrely towards the police dog”.
Sheriff David Mackie deferred sentence until 18 August for reports and released Beattie on bail.
