Rapist is jailed for sex attack on 14-year-old
By Court Reporter
A MAN who raped a 14-year-old girl at his parents’ home in Alva has been jailed for more than four years.
Graham Young attacked the teenager at the house in September 2006.
The 25 year-old later claimed the girl – who he thought was older – had consented to sex.
Young was convicted of rape following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
Judge Lord Hodge last Wednesday jailed him for four years and four months as he returned to court to be sentenced.
The judge told him, “This is a very serious charge of raping an immature, young girl, who was just 14.
“It must have been a frightening and degrading experience and such conduct cannot be tolerated.”
The court had heard how the girl had met Young and that she agreed to go to his parents’ home, where they ended up in his bedroom.
It was there Young raped the teenager – now 16 – after initial sexual contact had occurred with her consent.
Young’s QC said his client maintained the girl had agreed to have full sex with him.
Jock Thomson, defending, said Young had also believed his victim was older after she put on her MySpace website that she was 17.
The advocate added, “He has expressed considerable remorse that he had sex with a 14 year-old girl. It was his belief that she was nearer 18.”
