ALLOA Fire Station will be renamed and a Japanese style garden will be planted at the station in memory of Alloa fireman John Noble.

In addition, an annual golfing event has been organised for Central Scotland firemen, which will also be in remembrance of the firefighter who tragically died in January when the fire engine he was travelling in to an emergency call in Dollar collided with a tree.

Steven Torrie, chief fire officer, told the Advertiser, “Myself and the staff are pleased to be able to do this. It is positive steps coming out of a tragedy.

“The Japanese garden and plaque on the building will happen around the turn of the year.”

The exact wording of the renamed station has still to be confirmed but the Advertiser understands that renaming the station after Mr Noble has already been agreed in principal by the Central Scotland Fire Board.

Provost Derek Stewart, a member of the Fire Board, told the Advertiser, “After the tragic death of John we were asked if we could do anything in Clackmannanshire in his memory.

“He spent the greatest part of his life working at Alloa Fire Station so it is a fitting tribute to the man to name the station after him.”

At Braehead Golf Club on Friday, Mr Noble’s widow, Lorraine, and daughter, Linzi, presented Ronnie Bissett with the John Noble Memorial Trophy for winning the inaugural competition in his honour.

Lorraine said, “It is nice to see an activity to commemorate Johnny.

“He was a keen golfer and his colleagues will always remember him by this.”

Braehead Golf Club has planted a tree in Mr Noble’s memory on the course where he was a member.

Braehead Club president Bill Abernethy said, “This was John’s local course and the idea for the competition came from his colleagues.

“It is going to be an annual event here at Braehead.”
