AN ALLOA brewery has been celebrating two major supermarkets raising a glass towards the high quality of its beer.
Williams Brothers Brewing Company has had two of its beers selected for the final 15 in Sainsbury’s British Beer Competition and it has also recently won Tesco’s Drink Awards for the second year running.
Scott Williams, owner of Williams Brothers along with brother Bruce, told the Advertiser, “It is good to be shortlisted for awards. We need to let people know about our beers and being included in awards is an ideal way to do that.”
The brewery has been in Alloa for over three years – after relocating from Strathaven – and is the only brewery left in the town once famed for its beer making.
Williams Brothers are probably best known for their Fraoch Heather Ale but it is the company’s other beers that have been nominated for awards.
Harvest Sun and Good Times were selected for the Sainsbury’s competition from over 100 entries nationally, and Williams Brothers is the only brewery to have two beers in the final.
Sales figures between now and September will decide the two outright winning beers. The winners will receive a permanent listing in over 300 Sainsbury’s stores.
Scott said, “Good Times is a fresh summer beer and Harvest Sun is more of a hoppy golden beer. Both are quite citrusy and good to have with food or by themselves.”
This year’s Tesco beer competition success was in the stout category with Midnight Sun. The award follows last year’s victory by Seven Giraffes in the best bitter section.
Williams Brothers is now expanding its range by bringing out low alcohol drinks with a one per cent volume aimed at the adult taste palette. Flavoured with ingredients such as malt ginger, the drinks are available from delicatessens and specialist shops such as Peckhams.
The award nominated and winning beers are widely available in Sainsbury’s and Tesco.
