Tillicoultry teenager has specs appeal
By Hamish Hutchinson
Helen Louise Foster was a finalist in the Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
FORMER Alva Academy pupil Helen Louise Foster put herself in the frame for a modelling contract at the Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
The 18-year-old from Tillicoultry was selected from 381 hopefuls competing for the regional title of Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2008.
She joined nine specs wearing fashionistas from Scotland at the semi-final held at Specsavers Glasgow Trongate store last Tuesday.
It came as a shock for Helen having only found out about the competition by accident.
Helen said, “I went to pick glasses in Specsavers and one of the girls said I really suited them and I should enter in the competition.
“I thought, why not? – and did it. I didn’t think much about it until weeks later I got a phone call saying I was through to the semi-finals.
“I was quite shocked when I heard and then I began thinking, ‘how many people are going to be there, what will I wear’.”
Unfortunately Helen didn’t make it through to the grand final in London – the winner was Marissa Keltie from Edinburgh – but she was more than happy to receive a £150 Specsavers voucher for a new pair of specs.
Specsavers is donating £1 for every eligible entry it has received in this year’s competition to anti-bullying charity Kidscape, which will help them continue with their valuable work with children and young people.
In this week's Alloa & Hillfoots Advertiser, there's a chance to win a fantastic makeover with Specsavers and Cabelo Arte Hair & Beauty. Pick up a copy of the paper for full details.
