A TULLIBODY family has been re-housed after a fire gutted the inside of their home last Wednesday.
The blaze broke out in the semi-detached house on Ladywell Drive just after 6pm and neighbours called the fire brigade when they heard the fire alarm and could smell smoke.
No one was injured in the fire but it is believed that the damage caused to the property will cost around £70,000 to repair.
The Advertiser contacted the family living in the house, owned by Ochil View Housing Association, who were upset at the loss of their possessions. They did not want to talk about the fire although they did confirm no one was hurt.
Kind-hearted neighbours have raised around £300 in a whip-round to replace the children's’ school uniforms that were destroyed.
One neighbour said, “My boys were in our house and smelt the smoke and heard the alarm, and they went outside and saw the smoke coming out next door.
“They banged at the door but there wasn’t anyone answering so they called the fire brigade.
“I was at work and my boss came through to say it was my house on fire. Driving back I didn’t know what I was coming back to but everyone is okay so that is the main thing.
“There was thick black smoke coming out of next door and one of the windows had flames coming out of it.”
Four appliances attended, with two from Alloa, one from Tillicoultry and one from Stirling. The last engine returned to base at 10.42pm and two firefighters had to be taken to hospital suffering from heat exhaustion. They were later discharged.
It is believed that a chip pan was the source of the blaze, although fire chiefs were unwilling to confirm this.
George Tainsh, director of Ochil View, said the housing association had worked with Clackmannanshire Council to provide alternative accommodation for the family as work restoring their home could take up to six months.
Mr Tainsh added, “The house is severely damaged and it is going to cost £70,000 to rectify – it almost needs to be rebuilt.
“The other house received smoke damage and it may need some work done to the kitchen.”
