THIS week’s planned strike by Clackmannanshire Council call centre workers has been cancelled after a new pay offer was made.
Certain staff had been due to walk out from Tuesday to Friday over pay.
However, they will now attend work as normal whilst trade unions discuss the latest offer.
Trade unions – Unison, Unite and GMB – have led the industrial action, which has has seen council workers twice down tools en masse in the past few weeks.
The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) made a revised offer on Friday of three per cent this financial year and 2.5 per cent next year.
Previous offers of 2.5 per cent per year for three years and 2.5 per cent for one year were rejected by the unions and workers.
Clackmannanshire Council’s chief executive Dave Jones welcomed the cancellation of the strike which means there should be no disruption to the local authority’s services this week.
Mr Jones said, “We are pleased to see that the new pay offer is being taken by the trade unions to their members. We think that this is the best deal that can be offered in the current economic climate.
“The council is already concerned about maintaining services and jobs in the face of financial constraints.
“I very much hope that our employees will see this as a fair settlement, and strongly encourage acceptance of it to resolve the dispute.”
