THE winner of the ground breaking online reality show The Hirer was revealed on Friday – and already the show’s creator, Alloa recruitment consultant and employment guru Greta Hill Lyons, is planning a second series which could be hitting TV screens in the New Year.
Greta told the Advertiser that whilst it was a hard choice, the winner – Victoria Gibbs, from Glasgow – had stood out from the beginning.
Greta said, “It was extremely difficult to pick a winner, but Victoria had shone from the start, and throughout the tasks. In the end, all the finalists agreed she was the best candidate – even the chauffeur said the right choice had been made!”
And the next step for The Hirer concept could be on to the small screen.
Greta went on, “We are already in talks about taking The Hirer to TV and it looks like that will happen in the New Year, so it’s all go.”
As for the first ever winner, Victoria will become UK divisional manager for Fake Bake at Home. She will be responsible for getting the new arm up and running as well as recruiting 140 territory managers and 700 spray tan professionals, with the overall aim to make ‘Fake Bake at Home’ the ultimate home party accessory.
Victoria said, “I can’t wait to get my teeth into the new project and I’m sure it will be hard as well as lots of fun. The tasks I have undertaken with The Hirer have prepared me well for the position. Plus the new role will also enable me, for the first time, to start saving and planning for my wedding. I am absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the winner.”
Commenting on her decision to select Victoria, Fake Bake boss, Sandra McClumpha, said, “It was an incredibly tough call. All the girls have performed exceptionally well in all the tasks to date but Victoria consistently rose above the competition by coming up with strong, creative business ideas that went on to win her plenty of respect from the judges.
“Victoria will play a fundamental part in the business and I’m confident she will achieve the targets I have set.”
In addition, fellow contestant and single mum Laura Hogg, from Bishopbriggs, was also awarded with a position in the business, she will be acting as Victoria’s deputy for Fake Bake at Home.
And the show, which has been an outstanding success, could pave the way for a revolution in recruitment practices.
Greta explained, “When I showed Sandra McClumpha the CVs of the eight finalists she said she would not have selected any of the people for an interview.
“A CV should not be the key to getting candidates through the door for an interview, people need the opportunity to show employers the real skills and integrity that they possess.
“The Hirer process is a test case where all the finalists made a difference to Fake Bake’s bottom line, and this can work for other companies in the future.”
Greta added, “At a time when recruitment budgets are being scrutinised it is especially important that companies pick the most able candidates, so I would like to hear from employers, and those who would consider working for a trial period to showcase their skills. It has already worked for Fake Bake, a global organisation.”
