A COMMUNITY party is being staged in Alloa Town Hall to celebrate the success of the Clackmannanshire Bridge campaign and the opening of the new crossing.

Clackmannanshire Council – which led the campaign along with Ochil MSP Keith Brown and the Alloa & Hillfoots Advertiser – is inviting a cross-section of the community to the party, from mothers and toddlers and local school pupils, to business representatives and pensioners.

Around 300 people from all over the county are being invited to the event which will coincide with the official Clackmannanshire Bridge opening ceremony on Wednesday 19 November.

In January this year, thousands of local people got behind the Clackmannanshire Bridge, including local and national politicians and the local business community.

And last month Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson confirmed that the £120 million crossing will be known as the Clackmannanshire Bridge when it opens in two weeks’ time.

Council leader Janet Cadenhead will host the party, while Provost Derek Stewart and Councillor Eddie Carrick, who led the council’s campaign, will attend the official opening of the new bridge on behalf of the council.

Provost Stewart said, “It is only right that the people of Clackmannanshire, who really got behind the Clackmannanshire Bridge campaign, get the chance to celebrate this exciting and historic day, which is why we are putting on a party.

“My only regret is that everyone can’t come – but the town hall just isn’t big enough!”

Meanwhile, visitors to Clackmannanshire Council’s website can now send a ‘virtual postcard’ of Clackmannanshire Bridge to friends and family by visiting www.clacksweb.org.uk/visiting/postcards/
