A £1.5 MILLION development on the former Jamieson McGregor yard in Alloa will bring a significant boost to Clackmannanshire’s economy.

Alloa businessman Mike Mulraney has secured planning permission to build three new units on the site which will add 35,000 square foot of warehousing space to the yard at Kelliebank Engineering Works.

Work will begin on the first of the three units within the next four weeks and is due to be completed by early spring next year, with work on the last unit expected to be finished late into 2009.

A single 15,000 square foot unit has already been pre-let to Alloa recycling company ACE, who are looking to expand, and the development has attracted significant interest from businesses in Clackmannanshire and those looking to relocate to the Wee County.

Mr Mulraney told the Advertiser, “Since we bought the land and buildings at Kelliebank Engineering Works, which includes J and T Morris, JML Controls and the former Jamieson McGregor yard, we have spent nearly a quarter of a million upgrading the site.

“This will allow us to expand the facilities on offer on the site and will add significant space for future development, and we have now secured planning permission for three new warehousing complexes.

“An entire 15,000 square foot unit has been successfully pre-let to ACE who are looking to relocate and the other two 10,000 square foot units will be divided into small and medium sized workshops.

“We have been very pleased with the response we have had so far with some of the interest coming from people already located in Clackmannanshire and are looking to expand and some coming from small businesses outside the area.

“We are definitely keen to encourage people who are located outside the area to move into Clackmannanshire.”

Mr Mulraney also believes the development will ensure that there are adequate facilities for businesses in Clackmannanshire so jobs can be retained in the county.

And he believes that Clackmannanshire is now well placed to attract new businesses that otherwise may not have considered the Wee County as a base.

Malcolm McArdle, Managing Director of Alloa Community Enterprises Ltd, added, “I can confirm that ACE are currently in negotiations with Mulraney Property and would like to see us located on the new site as the cornerstone tenant in the new units.

“ACE have been trying to find the most suitable solution to our premises requirements as the company continues to grow and change.

“Mulraney Property are an excellent company and we would welcome the opportunity to work with them to create a facility that will not only benefit ACE, but provide a significant new recycling facility for residents of Clackmannanshire.”
