THE official opening of the Clackmannanshire Bridge takes place on Wednesday 19 November.
And Clackmannanshire Council is planning to mark the occasion with a series of events including a community party – and a special award for one of the county’s newest residents.
Provost Derek Stewart – who will join Councillor Eddie Carrick in representing the council at the official opening ceremony – wants to hear from new mums whose baby shares his or her birthday with the day the bridge opens.
Mr Stewart said, “I want to present the first Clackmannanshire baby born nearest the time the bridge officially opens with a commemorative gift.
“I hope this small token will be treasured by the family as a souvenir of this hugely significant day both for the family and for everyone in Clackmannanshire.”
Relatives can contact the Provost’s office on 452011 to let the council know about babies born on 19 November 2008. Emails can also be sent to chiefexecutiveservice@clacks.gov.uk
With over 500 births taking place in Clackmannanshire every year, Mr Stewart is hopeful that a newborn will arrive on 19 November.
Meanwhile, on the same morning as the official opening, the council has organised a community party at Alloa Town Hall.
A cross-section of the community has been invited to the party, from mothers and toddlers and local school pupils, to business representatives and pensioners.
Around 300 people from all over the county are expected to attend.
Council leader Janet Cadenhead will host the party.
