ALLOA’S Homeless World Cup winner Alan Wilson has returned from the competition looking to give others the same help he received on his way to the finals.

Alan (25) was goalkeeper in the successful Scottish team which won the tournament in Denmark last month – and he now plans to get involved in football coaching.

Alan told the Advertiser, “Being involved in the World Cup changed me, it calmed me down a bit and now I want to help the boys who are having problems.

“I hope to do some voluntary work with Street Sport and get my coaching certificates.”

Alan first got involved with the World Cup through Forth Valley’s Street Sport programme – run in conjunction with NHS Forth Valley Health Promotion Department, Clackmannanshire Council and Falkirk Football Club – which targets youths vulnerable to drink and drugs or with mental health problems, providing them with an alternative way to spend their time.

Alan said, “The Street Sport project seems to be worldwide – we spoke to boys from various different countries who are involved in it. Some of them have had real problems in the past.”
