RECREATION Park was the venue for this year’s primary school Girls Football Festival organised by Clackmannanshire Council’s sports development team.
On Friday 14 March nearly 200 Primary 4 + 5 girls from 19 local schools participated in this event.
The Council’s football development officer, Steven Hamilton, said, “The SFA initiatives which we organise for pupils alongside the primary PE team has been very popular and is raising the skill levels of our young people, this was clearly demonstrated by the girls today. I was delighted to set up this festival and obviously the girls enjoyed it. Also I would like to say a big thanks to Leanne Ross (Scottish women’s international footballer) for coming along and sharing her experiences with the girls”
Provost Derek Stewart attended the festival and was impressed by the high standard of play; “It was a fantastic attendance from the 12 schools involved and great to see so many girls playing football. Congratulations to these schools for entering teams. It can be difficult at times accsessing transport and also getting staff and volunteers to accompany the children to these events.”
Many thanks go to Mike Mulraney and Alloa Athletic FC for permitting the use of their ground. It is good to have the local football club supporting football development in Clackmannanshire.
Thanks also go to the football development officer and the two SFA apprentice; Chris Reid for their planning and preparation of the festival.
