Manager Maitland faces two-match ban
By John Simpson
Wasps manager Allan Maitland.
ALLAN Maitland the Alloa Athletic manager was sent to the stand at Central Park on Saturday for his remarks to the referee near the end of the Alloa v. Cowdenbeath Division 2 game.
When official Tommy Robertson’s report reaches the SFA Offices this week it could see Maitland being served with a two match ban which would leave him watching the Airdrie United and Berwick Rangers fixtures from the stand.
Depending on the content of the referee’s report if a ban is applied it would become effective 14 days after the incident.
A flash of temper two minutes from the end prompted the Alloa manager to make remarks to the referee whoconsulted his stand side linesman Martin Cryans before ordering Maitland upstairs for the short time remaining.
No doubt the Alloa manager will be considering whether or not to appeal.
The Wasps had cancelled out a 66 minute goal from Paul McQuade four minutes from the end but could not manage the winner in a match which failed to reach any great heights.and was watched by the lowest crowd in the division – 272.
Because Alloa could not record a win, Brechin City overtake them into fourth position thanks to their 2-1 victory over Airdrie United at Glebe Park.
This Saturday Alloa are at home to Ross County who were crowned Division 2 Champions on Saturday with their home 4-0 win over bottom side Berwick Rangers.
The following week the Wasps travel to meet second top Airdrie United so two difficult fixtures face them as they attempt to regain a play-off position.
