LOCAL lad Stuart Greig (18) recently returned from the Olympic Trials held in Sheffield with two lifetime bests in both the 200M Freestyle and 100M Butterfly.

Stuart, of Tullibody, who swims as part of Stirling University Swim Team, had to make the qualifying times before he could even be considered to compete at this prestigious event and he had managed to do so at recent district and national competitions.

At event which produced one World, two European, eight Commonwealth and 24 British records broken. Stuart didn’t disappoint.

In his first event, the 200M Freestyle, he swam a fantastic time of 1.53.2. This was followed by an even better performance in the 100M Butterfly where he managed to finish in 56.0 seconds, a brilliant result.

Stuart has worked tirelessly to get to this stage of his swimming career and is now in training for more national competitions in the next few months.

At 18 years old he is looking forward to a very promising future in the sport.

Former team-mate Lauren Forsyth (12), who lives in Tillicoultry and now swims as part of FIRST swam well at the recent Scottish National Age Group Championships held in Glasgow.

This was the first time Lauren had achieved qualifying times for this event and she too didn’t disappoint.

Qualifying in six events Lauren achieved personal best times in all her races which included a 16 sec PB in the 800M Freestyle and a 12 sec PB in the 400M IM.

Lauren finished all her races in the top half of the leader board, which included swimmers from all over Scotland as well as attracting some top English clubs.

She is now training hard for her next national competition due to held in June at the same venue.
