AN ALLOA boxer is hoping to exact a little revenge as he continues his comeback from injury next month at Alloa Town Hall.
Scott Hartley (21) has worked hard to bounce back from a series of ghastly injuries he suffered last autumn against Scottish champion Yanko Pavlov.
Scott left the ring against the heavyweight bruiser with a broken nose, a broken rib and a broken breastplate.
The injuries sidelined him for three months but did not keep Scott from wanting to put the gloves back on as soon as possible.
In his first fight back, he lost a close three round bout to Dunfermline boxer Brent Muckells – and it is Muckells that Scott will face again Friday 2 May.
Scott talked to the Advertiser about his first fight back from injury.
He said, “I was desperate to get back in the ring after being off for so long. I had won the first round of the match and I was feeling good but then I withdrew a bit. It was extremely frustrating to lose. I was gutted and it was a poor performance. But I know what I have to do to win against him.
“Muckells is an open fighter who looks for big hits. He has a hard time taking punches. I am going to have to work harder and throw more straight punches to win.”
Scott began boxing in 2005 during his time in the Navy and, after he left the services, he kept competing. His love of competition and all things sport led him to start his own business as an independent personal trainer.
Scott wants to continue his work as a trainer and hopes to work with Scotland’s elite athletes after picking up a pair of degrees at Stirling University, where he will shortly be enrolled.
As a member of the Alloa Amateur Boxing Club, Scott trains at the Bowmar Centre but his passion for sport takes him regularly to Scotland’s hills and rivers. Swimming, mountain biking and kayaking are just a few of the activities that keep Scott in fighting form. He is also making plans with a friend to climb Africa’s highest peak – Mount Kilimanjaro – for charity.
Scott feels confident he’ll get back to his winning ways in May and has set himself some lofty goals.
He said, “I would like to win a Scottish Championship. As much I would like to compete in the Olympics, I don’t know how realistic that is at my age.
“I want to compete in the Commonwealth games, though. I think that would be the highest I could go.
“I’ve had great support from my family every step of the way and I would love to represent Scotland.”
Scott’s bout is part of a fight night at the Alloa Town Hall on Friday 2 May. Tickets can be purchased at the Bowmar Centre in Alloa or at the Red Lion pub in Tillicoultry with prices ranging from £10 to £15.
