ALLOA Athletic under-19 side will be off to meet Jersey later this month to play an attractive fixture against the national side.

The young Wasps are looking forward to this friendly match against the side managed by one of their former coaches at Recreation Park, David Kennedy.

David, who had spells in Scotland playing with Dunfermline Athletic and Livingston is also looking forward to Alloa’s visit.

He said, “Our Jersey side is due to meet Guernsey the week after the Alloa match so this will be the last test before our Cimandis Muratti Cup Final against Guernsey.

The former defender told us, “I am looking forward to Alloa’s arrival because it is an excellent opportunity for our lads to play against a side which has some kids who are pushing to get a place in the first team.”

David added, “Our side defeated Alderley 7-0 to reach the final of the Cimandis Cup. We have since played Blackburn and Redding Reserves which were tough matches so I feel Alloa will be another good test for us before the final.

“This final can attract up to 5,000 supporters so we want to do well in a game which always has great rivalry.”

David will also have the opportunity to meet up again with his former Alloa coach Hugh McCann.

He said, “Hugh was my mentor when I was with the Wasps. This is where we have made the contact to get the game arranged and I’m delighted they are coming to play us as part of our preparations.”

Alloa will take a squad of 15 players plus youth manager Hugh McCann and coach Derek Brown. They will fly over on Friday 25 April, playing the match on the Saturday.
