Allan Maitland is hopeful of a play-off spot.

IF ALLOA Athletic take three points at New Broomfield on Saturday it could be enough to see them finish in a play-off position.

But results elsewhere will count too – for instance if Brechin win at Peterhead they could overtake the Wasps in the last fixture of the season.

Alloa did very well to bounce back into fourth top position with their home 2-0 victory over Ross County on Saturday which shows how determined the players are to give it their best shot in an attempt to reach the Secod Division next season.

Speaking on Saturday after the match Wasps manager Allan Maitland said, “A point might not be the worst result for us against Airdrie but we obviously want a victory. It is now very much in our own hands.”

Speaking about the victory over County when striker Andy Ferguson came off the bench to net both the Alloa goals, the manager said, “There were scoring chances missed by both teams, in fact if these had been taken, the score could have been 3-3 or 4-4.

“County, with many changes and the title won, had a carefree attitude at the start then poured bodies forward at us but our set pieces were really good. Andy Ferguson did well to score twice. but our goalkeeper Raymond Jellema also did well, making two great saves. But he has been doing that all season for us. Chris Townsley also played well in defence today.

“It turned out to be a great result for us and with two games to go – away to Airdrie and at home to Berwick – it is up to us now.”

Speaking about the Airdrie match the manager said, “We have Derek Fleming suspended for that one. He helped us defeat County so this will be a miss for us.

“ But we do have other players coming back from injury so this should help.”

He added. “:Airdrie have beaten us three times this season so our players realise we have to win this time. We must go out and impose ourselves on them.

“Winning a point might not be the worst result but we are trying for a victory.”
