ALLOA Athletic favourite Jamie Stevenson who left the club two seasons ago for promoted Morton could be returning to his first love.

The Bishopbriggs youngster suffered a torn hamstring in November last year which kept him out of the Morton side for a while, but he is now trying to plan his future elsewhere.

When we tracked him down when he was doing a cycle run on the old Forth and Clyde Canal bank. He told the Advertiser, “Because my injury kept me out of the side the boss (David Irons) has made it clear I will be allowed to leave Morton if another club comes in for me, even on loan.

“The thing is, our chairman Douglas Rae has said no to this. I suppose he wants some of the £17,000 they paid Alloa back.”

Jamie has already received enquiries from Alloa boss Allan Maitland and Ayr manager Brian Reid, so things could me moving soon.

Jamie said, “I wanted to continue playing full-time but that does not rule out Alloa. I had good times and I have good memories of Alloa, so it would be good to come back, even if it was on loan.

“That is certainly something I would consider. I don’t think I would be allowed to go on loan to a First Division side, but the Second or Third Division would be alright.

“Because David Irons has said I can now go, I feel the avenue will now open up for me to move on.”

Like any other young player, Jamie will be sorely missing playing regularly. Alloa fans who watched him in the past would love to see him back at Recreation Park.
