Wasps plan to make a stand for supporters
By Hamish Hutchinson
Plans have been lodged for a new stand at Recreation Park.
AWAY fans coming to Recreation Park could soon have their own stand.
Clackmannanshire Council this week received plans from Alloa Athletic Football Club for a 1000-seater east end stand.
The club lodged the proposals before the defeat by Clyde in the First Division play-off in preparation for promotion.
Wasps owner Mike Mulraney told the Advertiser that the club was planning a programme of works over the summer including upgrading its floodlights.
With hopes of promotion now gone, the club will decide over the next week whether the new stand will be included in the summer programme.
Mr Mulraney said, “We had to submit the planning application in case we got promoted to the First Division.
“Obviously we are disappointed that we didn’t get promoted but if we hadn’t made the plans and then had gone up we could have been accused of not having any foresight.”
Presently the west end stand has 400 seats and is used by both the home and away fans.
The design of the new stand will be similar to the small structure used by neighbouring Falkirk FC and has been estimated to cost in the region of Ł100,000.
Mr Mulraney added, “Not only do we want to make the home fans comfortable, but we want to make sure the visiting fans are comfortable too.”
