Former Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath defender Grant Brough will take over as team coach.

AFTER a weekend of discussions, Sauchie Juniors have named the man who will replace outgoing team boss Dave Wilcox.

He is former Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath defender Grant Brough, who lives in Dunfermline and keen to get started at Beechwood Park.

The 30 year old British Gas employee leaves a similar post with Dundonald Bluebell where he had considerable success and hopes to continue this with Sauchie.

Grant, who was with the Pars as a youth player and finished with them on a full-tiime contract, told us this week, “I saw on the Sauchie Football Club website they were looking for a manager and decided at once to apply.

“I think there is great poential at Sauchie in what I consider to be an appealing job. It may be a big task for me but it looks like a nice set-up they have.

“Getting the structure right would be first in my thoughts and, because I know they have had many good players over the years, see where I can take them. I would firstly try to take Sauchie further up the league by retaining the majoity and bringing in one or two new boys.”

But Grant is not necessarily planning wholesale change. He said, “It is fairly early to say if I will need to bring players in because one of the first things I will be doing is speaking to them all when the pre-season training begins.

“I want to give everybody the opportunity to show what they can bring to the club.”

Joining Grant at Sauchie is the man who helped him win promotion at Dundonald Bluebell last season – Myles Allan. Speking about his assistant, Grant said, “Myles is a good man so we are both ready to go in there and get the job started. I am also planning to bring in another man who will be a great acquisition to the club. He is a player coach who I am sure will also do well at Sauchie.”

Noel Dalli, the Sauchie secretary who crafted these changes during the past week or so said, “We had several applications to replace Dave Wilcox but decided Grant was our man.

“He is a young hungry coach who wants to do well with us. He was a youth coach with Cowdenbeath FC and while with Junior side Dundonald, took them from the East Section of the Cenral League to the Premier League.

“We are pleased to welcome him and his assistants to Sauchie because they know the Junior scene well.”
