Last Wednesday Clackmannanshire Schools received their awards in relation to the Rugby Champions Scheme.

Alva Academy were awarded the gold award and both Alloa and Lornshill Academy Silver award. The awards are in correspondence to the amount of rugby on offer at their school.

The School Rugby Champions helped to increase the number and amount of rugby played in their secondary schools by giving up their spare time to take extra-curricular rugby.

Regional Development Manager, John Manson, said: “It is vital, for the future of Scottish rugby, that we support rugby at all levels and all ages.

“We are giving our full support to school volunteers resulting in the creation of more rugby opportunities for Clackmannanshire's school children.”

The school’s registered rugby champion are awarded personal coaching kit and specialist rugby equipment for coaching and training; additional equipment is then provided as rugby develops at the school in accordance with levels of participation.

Ben Hanvey, Clackmannanshire Rugby Development Officer added: “The Rugby Champions scheme is an excellent initiative both in increasing participation in rugby and encouraging Clackmannanshire children to become more active.''
