Claremont 6 v 2 Coaches/Firefighters

THIS football match on Sunday, held to the memory of tragic firefighter John Noble of Clackmannan who died while travelling on his appliance to attend an emergency, brought around 1000 spectators to Recreation Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Claremont 17s, showing not only good football from the start did not take long to have their opponents out of puff to lead 5-1 at the interval.

One firefighting member of the “veteran” side commented, “Our side was not quick enough for most of the young boys but they did have youth on their side.”

Jim Dawson, the Claremont coach who also put his boots on said, “Age and fitness was to tell in the end in a game which had rolling substitutes. It was a brilliant day and although the totals are not complete, we look like having reached between £400 and £500 for the Firefighters’ Charity.”

“Thanks go to the officials, spectators, Alloa Athletic, those who donated and the Dunmar Hotel.

“We hope to hold this game annually with perhaps a personality coming along to play next time.”
