AFTER chalking up 40 years representing the Clackmannan and Kinross Bowling Association, Alva bowler Brian Rattray has decided to step down from his County duties.
During Brian’s impressive stint for the “Wee County” he notched up an incredible amount of personal achievements, some of these include: Scottish Outdoor Internationalist on 49 occasions, 21 times capped for Scotland indoor and still currently a Scottish Senior Internationalist.
Brian also represented Scotland in the Commonwealth Games in 1982 and in 1984 played for his Country at the World Bowls in Aberdeen where he won gold, silver and bronze metals.
He played in the Australian Classic pairs in 1979 and the Jersey Classic pairs and rinks in 1991.
Brian was a member of the Clackmannan & Kinross team that won the Hamilton Trophy in 1977, the “Wee County’s” only win to date.
Brian has been the Club Singles Champion at Alva BC on no fewer that 20 occasions, including a run of 10 consecutive wins from 1979-1988, a record which speaks for itself. He has also won every other club competition on many occasions.
In the County Championships he started his amazing winning streak back in 1974 winning the County Rinks and has also won the Pairs in 1981 and has been the County Singles Champion on no less than four occasions, 1979, 1985, 1987 and again in 1990.
In 1982 Brian reached what must be the highest point in his bowling career, when he was crowned the Scottish Singles Champion, the title that every bowler in Scotland strives to achieve.
In 1993 Brian again reached the final of the Scottish Singles only to lose narrowly in the end.
Now after playing the County Team for an amazing 40 years, Brian has decided to retire as a County player before the selectors decide for him.
County officials would like to thank Brian Rattray for his continued loyalty to Clackmannan & Kinross Bowling Association over these past years and to wish him all the very best for the future.
Alan Murray made the presentation of a silver quaich, duly inscribed to commemorate 40 years of play for Clackmannan & Kinross County Team. Finished with his rink winning 27-12 and the County defeating Glasgow by 157 shots to 82 shots.
