ALLOA used all seven substitutions during this fast-paced pre season friendly at the Recs.
Wasps gaffer, Alan Maitland was happy with the effort, saying, “It was a great work out, we were missing a bit of sharpness but that will come.”
Alloa were quickly on the attack, forcing two corners in the opening five minutes.
A headed effort by the Wasps Dougie Hill on 15 minutes was nearly fumbled into the net by Airdrie stopper Lee Hollis.
The next 15 to 20 minutes was scrappy as neither side got control of the ball.
On 35 minutes Alloa nearly took the lead when Airdrie defender Chris McMenamin almost sliced a clearance into his own net.
The Wasps made three substitutions at half-time and it wasn’t long before the home team were on the move.
In 50 minutes Steven McKeown of Alloa shot wide from the edge of the penalty box.
Alloa continued to press and Pat Scullion whipped in a dangerous cross from the right, which was cleared for a corner.
With 20 minutes to go Airdrie started to take control of the game as Joe Cardle became a constant threat.
On 80 minutes Cardle raced into the Alloa box and rifled in a low drive which was well saved by the home keeper.
Five minutes later Cardle fired off another effort which was pushed round the post for a corner.
Alloa’s Ally Forster had the ball in the net on the stroke of full-time but was judged to have fouled Hollis.
